The seismic behaviour of buildings erected in Solid Timber Construction

The report produced by the Institute of Timber Engineering and Wood Technology of Graz University of Technology “The seismic behaviour of buildings erected in Solid Timber Construction, G. Schickhofer, A. Ringhofer” is now available for download. It refers to the seismic design according to EN 1998 for a 5-storey reference building in CLT. In the section Tutorials & Samples you can download the sample file of the structure modeled with our software TimberTech Buildings.

08/09/2015 Design of steel elements

In the latest version of the software, we added the following new features:

  • Check of steel beams and columns: Now you can use steel elements in your project. The program performs check of a designed member under action of any internal forces (normal and shear forces, bending moments) and stability check for columns. A complete archive including the most common steel cross section types (IPE, HEA, HEB e HEM) is made available to the user.

17/08/2015 Definition of the limiting values for deflections and visualization of columns in dxf

In the latest version of the software, we added the following new features:

  • Custom limits for deformations: now you can set the limiting values for deflection of every beam and floor.
  • Visualization of columns in the dxf export
  • Materials database expansion and upgrade: we added some new materials such as duo and trio beams. We also added new material: CLT and connections.

13/07/2015 Modal linear dynamic (response spectrum) analysis

In the latest version of the software, we added the following new features:

  • Modal linear dynamic (response spectrum) analysis: added the possibility to perform the linear dynamic analysis. The response of a structure is defined as a combination of many special shapes (modes). The software determines these modes and for each mode, reads a response from the design spectrum, based on the modal frequency and the modal mass. The responces are then combined using a complete quadratic combination to provide an estimate of the total response of the structure.
  • Possibility of selecting which results to print: you can choose which checks to export: only those related to static analysis (vertical loads and wind), those related to static analysis + seismic equivalent static analysis, or those related to static analysis + dynamic (response spectrum) analysis.
  • New graphic theme: we changed the theme and the icons of the software.
  • Bug fixing e small improvements

11/06/2015 Modal Analysis

In the latest version of the software, we added the following new features:

  • Modal Analysis: Added the possibility to calculate and display in graphical and tabular form the modes of vibration of the modeled structures taking into account the deformation of the timber walls and of their the connections.
  • Bug fixing e small improvements

30/04/2015 Solver update – walls that bypass levels

In the latest version of the software, we added the following new features:

  • Solver update: added the possibility to model walls that “skip” one or more floors. Specifically, a ceiling slab can be supported by walls that have base nodes belonging to levels lower than that of the floor immediately below. This allows to significantly expand the number of cases that can be modeled with the software.
