A new structural material to expand design possibilities
The range of structural timber products continues to grow, with new materials being developed to meet increasingly specific design requirements. Among these solutions, hardwood glulam complements traditional softwood glulam, expanding the possibilities for using hardwood species in structural applications.
FLO.LAM OAK was developed in this context. Produced by Florian Spa, this oak glulam product has recently obtained CE marking for structural use following the European Technical Assessment ETA-25/0265.
FLO.LAM OAK: the aesthetics and performance of oak
FLO.LAM OAK was developed to bring the distinctive qualities of oak – traditionally valued for its durability, aesthetic appeal and mechanical properties – into an engineered and certified structural product.
In many contemporary projects, structural elements become an integral part of the architectural language of the building. To meet these requirements, FLO.LAM OAK brings the aesthetic qualities of one of the most highly valued wood species for flooring, cladding and finishes to structural elements as well, combining structural performance with architectural quality.
From a technical perspective, FLO.LAM OAK is certified for use in service classes 1, 2 and 3 and is available in a range of dimensions, with cross-sections up to 600 mm in height and lengths up to 13.5 m. Thanks to the mechanical properties of oak, the product also provides higher strength and stiffness values than conventional GL24h glulam, making it particularly suitable for applications requiring high structural performance or where reduced cross-sectional dimensions are desirable.
FLO.LAM OAK integration in TimberTech Buildings
With the release of version 111 of TimberTech Buildings, FLO.LAM OAK has been added to the software’s material library, allowing structural designers to use it directly in their projects.
As a TimberTech Buildings Premium product, FLO.LAM OAK is fully integrated into the calculation engine. In addition, the software provides direct access to the manufacturer’s official technical documentation, which can be viewed and downloaded directly from the program interface, including the technical data sheet, technical manual, ETA, Declaration of Performance, certificate of constancy of performance and formaldehyde emission certificate.
This feature is designed to make technical information and certifications immediately available throughout the design process. The aim is to provide structural designers with an increasingly comprehensive working environment in which calculation tools, design data and technical documentation are integrated within a single platform.
